Cycle Safety Reflection

Cycle Safety

In cycle safety today, we learned about giving way and our hand signals for riding on the road. If you want to turn left, you must do your left hand signal and if you want to turn right, you must do your right hand signal. They also taught us the 'T' intersection and who goes first. For example:
The main rules are:
☆ The top of the 'T' goes before me.
☆ We must always give way to cars on the right.
☆ Cars going straight ahead must go first.
☆ Short turns first, long turns last.
Golden Rule:
Wait and see
This is the 'T' intersection and it is called that because the roads meet together making a T. Imagine we are the biker and we meet a give way sign. We find that there is a green car wanting to turn and a bus going straight. The bus must go first because it is on the top of the 'T', we must always give way to our right and the bus is going straight ahead. Then the green car goes second because it is on the top of the 'T'. And we go last.

When you are going first and a car is waiting for you, make sure you smile at the driver and make eye contact. If they didn't smile back or make eye contact, then they must be distracted. So if you are unsure, you must use the Golden rule and wait and see.
So far I have enjoyed doing cycle safety and I can't wait until tomorrow's lesson.
