STEM Workshop Term 3 Week 3

STEM Reflection

This week, my STEM workshop was about Vortex Cannons. The first thing we talked about was the 3 states of matter. The 3 states of matter are Solid, Liquid and Gas. An example of a Solid is like a cube where the atoms are closer together. A liquid is like water or juice where the atoms are a little bit apart meaning that when you pour water into a jug, it will take the capacity of that jug. But when you pour water into an open area, it will spill everywhere because the atoms are a more apart. And the last one is Gas. Gas is when the atoms are way more apart. Gas also goes up and the type of gases are, carbon dioxide, air or oxygen and when water evaporates from the heat, that's also gas too.

Our task was to make a smaller Vortex Cannon using a half plastic bottle, a balloon and some tape. Because the bottle was already cut into half, all we had to do was to cut a little bit of the balloon then put it around the plastic bottle. Then to make the balloon stay, you put the tape around the balloon.
This is what a vortex cannon looks like:
