Kiwi Kids News- Hurricane Matthew Devastates Haiti
Hurricane Matthew Devastates Haiti
On October 10, 2016, Hurricane Mathew has ripped into the South Coast of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The Hurricane has been one of the dangerous and powerful hurricanes in the Atlantic.
The wind was measuring over 200 km and many homes have been damaged while over 900 people have sadly died.
Around 10,000 people have gone to other shelters for safety while the Southern coastal areas have been blocked from the rest of the country because the bridge linking the area has collapsed.
Reporters have also said that the hospitals are overcrowded and shortages of fresh water while the people describe the hurricane as "catastrophic"
Late on Friday, Matthew became a furious Category Five, but then dropped down to a Category Three. The storm has been making it's way to the Caribbean so they alerted the people to stock up on supplies. This is a picture of how it started:

My Reflection
My Blog Reflection
This week I have been learning waterline with Adrienne. She taught us how we must save our precious water because we only 1% of water to use. Out of 100%, 97% is to salty for us, 2% is - we can't get because it is underground or it is frozen, so only 1% is fresh for us to drink. What I really found interesting is how we get condensation on our windows. At night when we sleep, we breath and sometimes snore and the water vapor comes out from our mouth and touches the window. Then the gas turns into water. I also learned that one oxygen and two hydrogens makes one very, very small water drop. this is called a water molucule. I found this fun and interesting.
I also did talent time on Friday. I was in Room 2 making an apron. I found it very fun and I learned how to make it. But what I found very hard was to put the string into the hole of the needle. But luckily for me I had a big hole.

Ferlyn's R.E. Reflection
R.E. Reflection
In R.E., I have been learning about the Grace that Jesus gives us through the Sacraments we receive. For example:
Eucharist
Eucharist
Eucharist is when you receive the bread and wine, it is blessed by the priest to be made the body and blood of Jesus.
Baptism
Baptism
Baptism is when you get baptised when you are a baby. But sometimes you get baptised when you are a little older and star a new life with God.
In R.E. I have also been learning to read the readings about Jesus healing the blind, the deaf and a demon-possessed man. I also wrote the story in my own words and I found this easy. This is my story: The Paralysed Man
Jesus came back to Capernaum and everyone knew he was coming back home. Everyone came to see him that there was no room left. Even the entrance was blocked with all these people. Then four men came carrying a paralysed man but couldn't pass with all the crowd. So they made a hole on the roof and laid the man on the ground. Jesus said to the paralysed man," My son, your sins are forgiven." There were teachers of the law watching this and thought to themselves ," How dare he talk like this! God is the only one who can do it."

Ferlyn's Writing Reflection
Writing Reflection
In writing I have been learning to write a moment in time about Cross Country, the view of Mt. Everest and the roller coaster. To write a moment in time you need to have descriptive writing and figurative language.
You can also use similes and metaphors. But most importantly, you need to write in first person and present tense.
For example:
Rather than I went to the playground, you use, I am going to the playground.
First I found this quite hard, but now it is quite easy. Apart from that, it is really fun !!!!!!!!
Here is a moment in time:
Cross Country
I am waiting nervously for the siren to go on with cold, shaking legs. I see Mr. Crowe moving his thumbs, pushing the green butten gently and the screaming siren goes on. We all zoom like firing bullets darting out. I can see the person who beat me last year beside me. Everyone shoves and pushes until they are finally infront and I see Renee speeding her way through.

Max our puppy
I have a puppy called Max who is a Jack Russell and a Poodle which is a cross. He is 9weeks old and chews on anything he finds. He also loves to chew on our slippers and play outside. I don't think he likes having a bath. He knows how to get on the sofa but doesn't know how to get back down.
